How satisfied are you with access to pharmacy services in your local area?

Know what’s open this Easter

Patients are being urged to get organised in advance of the bank holidays in April and May, request repeat prescriptions in advance and be aware of service availability.

Only on weekends and bank holidays are GP services limited. On all other days GP surgeries are open from 8am to 6.30pm as normal. Certain pharmacies are open during the Easter holidays and the two bank holidays in May including Pimhole Pharmacy on Rochdale Road which is open 11am to 10pm on Easter Sunday.

The GP extended working hours project allows for additional GP appointments to be made on weekends, into the evenings until 8pm and even on bank holidays. Patients are advised of the available appointments by their own surgery, these appointments are available at three locations and may not be with your usual doctor.

Saturday, 15th April is a normal working day for pharmacies and so pharmacists will be open as normal. Pharmacists offer expert health advice and recommend over-the-counter medicines that offer relief from the most common illnesses such as colds, headaches, cuts or an upset stomach. Patients are advised to telephone their usual pharmacy before travelling, as opening hours may vary during the holiday period, or check out the link here for times and phone numbers.

Dr. Kiran Patel, Chair of NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and local GP said: “Whilst self care is generally the best option for minor ailments, it is important that local people know where to go or who to contact if they are unwell, so that they can receive the best possible treatment in the quickest time for their condition.”

Where to go for the right medical care:

  • NHS Choices website (http://www.nhs.uk/) for advice on less urgent health needs.
  • NHS 111 for clinical advice, assessment and for direction to the most appropriate services for treatment if you need medical help fast but it is not an emergency – available 24/7.
  • GP practices will be closed on the following bank holidays: 14th April (Good Friday), 17th April (Easter Monday), 1st May (Monday May Day Bank Holiday) and 29th May (Monday Spring Bank Holiday). Patients can ask their GP surgery about appointments in the evening, weekends and Bank Holidays. These are available from 6.30pm – 8pm Monday to Friday, and 8am – 6pm at weekends and Bank Holidays at ‘three hub’ practices across the borough.
  • Pharmacists for those generally feeling unwell. For further information on opening times please click here or see the information below:
  • Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments and the 999 ambulance service should only be used in a critical or life-threatening situation.
