Press release - The future looks ‘Good’ at Garden City

Garden City Medical Practice has received an overall ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission, following their latest inspection in March.

CQC Inspectors carried out a full inspection of the practice on 15th March 2017, and the Practice are delighted to receive a rating of ‘Good’ in all areas (report published 16th May 2017).

The CQC focusses on areas including safety, effectiveness, being caring, responsive and well-led.

It’s been a busy time at the Practice and patients and staff are benefitting from a range of improvements that have been put in place since its last inspection.

Since their previous inspection in June 2016, internal systems and processes highlighted at that time as needing improvement have now been addressed.  The CQC assured itself that these improvements had been made during a visit to Garden City in December 2016, however, it was only at its next full and comprehensive inspection in March that the Practice’s overall grade was re-evaluated to ‘Good’ in all areas.

Providing the highest quality care is a top priority for the Practice and recent feedback captured from patients was that they provide an exceptional service and have a genuine focus on care. Patients felt they receive a good service from the caring, friendly doctors, nursing and practice staff, and feel lucky to have the Practice in the local community.

Some of the improvements put in place over the past year include:

  • A brand new Patient Participation Group has been set up to ensure that patients are equal partners in key Practice issues
  • Introduction of Saturday vaccination clinics to meet demand over the winter which was convenient for patients
  • The Practice website has been refreshed for the benefit of its patients
  • The Practice has been registered as Dementia Friendly
  • Patients living with long term conditions who miss a follow up appointment are contacted by the Practice to check on their welfare
  • Friends and Family test questionnaires are available on yellow paper for accessibility purposes
  • The employment of a new full time Practice Manager bringing stability and leadership to the team
  • Staff training in key areas including safeguarding and the maintaining of staff training records
  • Regular staff meetings are held to keep staff involved and informed
  • Strengthened policies and procedures are now in place covering areas such as reporting significant events and fire safety

Charlotte Kelly, Practice Manager at Garden City said: “The whole team at Garden City is dedicated to providing high quality and responsive patient care. We are absolutely committed to ensuring that we are a caring, effective, safe, responsive and well led Practice, a Practice to be proud of, and are delighted that this has been recognised through our ‘Good’ rating from the CQC”.

“We are grateful for the continued support of our loyal patients and staff and the team are looking forward to a prosperous and exciting future at Garden City Medical Centre.”
