Patients' Champion Appointed
A local man has taken on the job of ensuring that the views of local people are placed at the heart of planning health services in Bury.
Bury man, David McCann has taken on the role of ‘Patients' Champion’ for the new NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
As Patients' Champion, David, 45, will Chair a brand new Patients' Cabinet made up of 12 patient representatives from right across the borough. Members of the Patients' Cabinet will come together to represent the views of their local communities.
David is the Senior Partner at Woodcocks Solicitors in Bury, he has worked from the Bury office of Woodcocks since 1991. He has a keen interest in patient and public involvement, a role he has experience in as Non Executive Director for Rock Healthcare (a GP Led Health Centre) in Bury. As part of his community interests, David is also the Vice Chairman of Bury College.
As Patients' Champion, David will not only Chair the Patients' Cabinet, he will also hold a seat on the Bury CCG Board, sitting alongside managers and clinicians who make decisions about the planning of local health services. David's role will bring the voice of local people to the table and into the heart of these decision making processes.
Regarding his appointment David said: “I feel honoured to have been given this unique opportunity, and feel confident that the Patients' Cabinet will ensure that services are delivered with the patient firmly at the centre. The Cabinet will be a vital and powerful tool in ensuring that local people have an opportunity of getting their point of view across in a meaningful way."

I am confident that under his leadership, and the work of the Patients' Cabinet, that local communities will have their voices heard and in turn that services will continue to meet their needs.”
David lives in Bury, he is married with four children. In his spare time he assists in the coaching and referring of an under 7s football team. He enjoys running, golf and spending time with his family.

Bury CCG is the new local leader of the NHS taking over from NHS Bury. Bury CCG is currently working in its 'shadow year' and will fully take over the reins of the local NHS by April 2013.
